Universal Pictures has locked down the release date and title for M. Night Shyamalan's next feature film -- a collaboration with "Paranormal Activity" studio Blumhouse Productions -- titled "Split," with a release date of Jan. 20, 2017.

Described by The Hollywood Reporter as a "supernatural suspense thriller," "Split" stars James McAvoy ("X-Men: Days of Future Past"), Anya Taylor-Joy ("The Witch"), Betty Buckley ("Carrie"), Jessica Sula ("Skins") and Haley Lu Richardson ("The Last Survivors").

Shyamalan and Blumhouse teamed up this year to produce "The Visit," which was a definite success for both parties, given the film's considerably small $5 million budget, and overall gross of $89 million at the worldwide box office.

According to THR, "Split" will take over for the placeholder "Untitled Blumhouse Productions title" in Universal's schedule, which was previously reserved on the Jan. 27, 2017 date.
