At long last, Wonder Woman is about to make her mark on the movie screen. The DC Comics icon is one of a handful of superheroes featured in director Zack Snyder's Man of Steel sequel, with Gal Gadot wielding the lasso of truth.

Lynda Carter, who famously portrayed the iconic heroine on the 1970s television series, hopes for nothing but the best for Gadot as she steps into the role, telling Metro, "I hope she has fun with it." Further, Carter thinks it's great that Wonder Woman will appear in the Superman/Batman team-up before having a movie of her own.

"She won't have to carry the whole film," Carter said. "It takes the pressure off. I wish her well. I'm just glad she's going to be out there again. Maybe she'll get her own show again."

As for the enduring legacy of Wonder Woman as a series and character, Carter has more than a few ideas about why the Amazon warrior remains so iconic.

"There's an identification factor," she said. "She's not your average superhero. It's not so much about her super powers as it is about her ethic. I always thought of her as a figure who stands for what's right. We all know what's wrong with the world today, so maybe we need her right now."
