The musical element of Marvel's "Luke Cage" on Netflix is one of the highlights of the fan-favorite series. Many legends in the musical business, including Raphael Saadiq, D-Nice, The Delfonics, and others performed on the series, and "Luke Cage" showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker has now revealed that he had a plan in place to convince Prince to appear on the Marvel Television show as well.

The "Swear Jar" in Pop's Barbershop is referenced heavily in the first two episodes, and is a recurring element throughout the series. Prince, who passed away in April 2016, was a devout Jehovah's Witness and had his own swear jar in his home. Coker's plan was to show Prince the first two episodes of "Luke Cage" and have him see the jar being used, hopefully appealing to the performer enough for him to come him on board as a special musical guest.

In lieu of Prince, Coker went with Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings instead, a decision he feels actually worked out in favor of the show's story.

Executive produced by Cheo Hodari Coker, "Marvel's Luke Cage" stars Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Mahershala Ali as Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple and more. The entire first season is now available to stream on Netflix.
