Dinner for Schmucks actress Lucy Punch has landed the role of homicide detective Deena Pilgrim in FX's Powers, The Live Feed reports.

Based on the long-running comic series by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, Powers follows two detectives who investigate cases involving “powers” (people with superhuman abilities) in a world where superheroes and supervillains are common. Deena Pilgrim is a rookie cop with a secret who's paired with veteran Christian Walker to investigate the murder of Retro Girl, a popular superheroine.

Battlestar Galactica star Katee Sackhoff emerged as an early favorite among fans to play Pilgrim, but her casting as the female lead in A&E's Longmire pilot all but guaranteed she would be unavailable for Powers -- that is, if the producers were even interested in her for the role.

The part of Walker hasn't been cast, but the cable channel reportedly has been courting Friday Night Lights and Super 8 star Kyle Chandler. Punch joins previously announced cast members Charles S. Dutton and Bailee Madison.

The Powers pilot is written by Charles “Chic” Eglee, former executive producer of The Walking Dead, and directed by executive producer Michael Dinner (Justified, Sons of Anarchy). The network is looking to premiere the series in early 2012.

The 33-year-old Punch, who also appeared in St. Trinian's and Hot Fuzz, will next be seen alongside Cameron Diaz, Jason Segel and Justin Timberlake in Bad Teacher.
