Lucasfilm has finally confirmed the release date for its Tuskegee Airmen biopic, Red Tails. The World War II action movie directed by Anthony Hamilton will hit theaters on Jan. 20, 2012, a bit later than the fall 2011 release that had been expected, but at least it’s finally coming.
“I am humbled and honored to direct the story of the Tuskegee Airmen – heroes who have paved the way so others could have the opportunity to pursue their dreams,” Hemingway said in a statement. “To be selected by George Lucas and Rick [McCallum] to direct this film was more than my wildest dreams come true.”
The January release is a little puzzling, as that’s usually where Hollywood movies are sent to die. There hasn’t been a ton of buzz over Red Tails, but it is a Lucasfilm joint. That still counts for something, right? It does right here. Consider my ticket purchased.
And hey, here’s a trailer. What coincidental timing! This may be my inner Star Wars nerd talking, but seeing dogfighting in a new Lucasfilm movie gives me chills.
