Comedian and actor Louis C.K. will write, direct and star in the indie film "I'm a Cop."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project tells the story of a depressed, middle-aged volunteer police officer who lives in the shadow of his mother, a highly decorated retired cop. When she dies, her influence continues, pushing him to become something he never wanted -- an actual police officer.

C.K. has a string of directing credits, including his FX series "Louie," numerous comedy specials and the 2001 Chris Rock film "Pootie Tang" (although he was removed from the latter by Paramount Pictures during postproduction). He's won five Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award.

Scott Rudin will produce "I'm a Cop" alongside Dave Becky and Blair Breard.
