Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, perhaps best known for his roles on ABC’s “Lost” and HBO’s “Oz,” has been cast as one of the lead villains in Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World.” Variety reports the British actor will play the dual parts of Algrim the Strong and Kurse.
Created by Walter Simonson, Algrim the Strong was introduced in 1984’s “Thor” #347 as the most powerful of the race of Dark Elves. Coerced by his ruler Malekith the Accursed into battling Thor, Algrim is betrayed by Malekith and critically injured, only to later be healed and transformed into Kurse, a being twice as strong as the thunder god.
Akinnuoye-Agbaje joins returning stars Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Jaimie Alexander, Stellan Skarsgard, Rene Russo and Kat Dennings, as well as new additions Zachary Levi and Christopher Eccleston (who’s set to play Malekith).
Last seen in “The Thing” and “Killer Elite,” Akinnuoye-Agbaje also appeared in “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” and “The Bourne Identity.”
Directed by Alan Taylor, “Thor: The Dark World” opens Nov. 8, 2013.
