Although James Mangold, Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds were quick to shoot down a rumor in December that Deadpool would have a cameo in "Logan," a new development is sure to reignite speculation.

REVIEW: “Logan” is the Best Wolverine Movie, Period

On Friday, Alamo Drafthouse's Mike Sampson revealed Fox had updated the film's runtime, so the cut released next month in theaters will be three minutes longer than the on screened earlier this week for critics. We know that version didn't contain a post-credits scene, but what about the final cut?

Three minutes, give or take -- the runtime was amended from 135 minutes to 140.34 -- seems about right for a scene, but what it might contain is of course another question entirely. It could help to set up what comes after Jackman's hero leaves the stage, or simply give the actor his encore. Or, you know, it could be that team-up of Wolverine and Deadpool that some fans have so longed for. Some corners of the internet are undoubtedly pinning their hopes on the latter. (Hey, maybe Mangold settled on a way to pull off that cameo without disrupting "Logan's" tone.)

We've become so accustomed to post-, and even mid-, credits scenes in our superhero movies that it would be surprising if "Logan" didn't have one -- more surprising even than if Mangold managed to sneak in the Merc With a Mouth. However, barring studio leaks, we'll probably have to wait two weeks to discover what those extra three minutes hold.

Opening March 3 nationwide, “Logan” stars Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Richard E. Grant, Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Dafne Keen, Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal and Elizabeth Rodriguez.
