Warning: This article contains spoilers for "Logan," which opens March 3 nationwide.

Aside from Hugh Jackman's brief cameo in "X-Men: Apocalypse," there would at first seem to be little connecting the film's plot to the actor's final outing as Wolverine in "Logan." However, according to X-Men franchise producer Simon Kinberg, there's tangible link: the sample of Wolverine's blood collected in "Apocalypse's" post-credits scene.

Speaking to Cinemablend, Kinberg confirmed the phial of blood is what the antagonists in "Logan" used to kickstart their revised Weapon X program.

However, the phial in "X-Men: Apocalypse" is placed into a suitcase belonging to Essex Corp., which would seem to be a link to Nathaniel Essex, Mr. Sinister. That X-Men villain doesn't play a Sinister doesn't a role in "Logan," though, so does this mean he'll make an appearance in an upcoming film?

"The short answer is yes," Kinberg said. "We'd love to see Sinister. I think he is one of the great untapped villains in the X-Men universe, and we do have plans to introduce him into the world."

Whether those plans would include a Sinister appearance "X-Men: Supernova," which Kinberg reportedly wrote and is in talks to direct, remains to be seen.

Directed by James Mangold, “Logan” is set in the near future, years after the epilogue of 2014’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past.” In it, a weary Logan, whose healing factor is failing, cares for an ailing Professor X in a hideout on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, pursued by dark forces.

Opening March 3, “Logan” stars Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Dafne Keen and Stephen Merchant.
