"Logan" is a critical and financial darling, thanks in no small part to its gamble of bucking superhero genre norms in favor of a darker, different direction for its world and characters. One of the undeniable standouts of the purportedly final Wolverine film was the introduction of Laura Kinney, aka X-23, the 11-year-old mutant who bears some pretty striking similarities to the movie's titular hero. While audiences cheered at seeing the preteen slice and dice her way through countless Reavers, recent early concept art reveal a strikingly different look (and age) for the young mutant.

The award-winning concept design and visual effects studio Aaron Sims Creative (ASC) has revealed their batch of early character concept designs for "Logan," including a teenage X-23. The work was done by ASC's Aaron Sims, Steffen Reichstadt, and Eve Ventrue. Check out the results below for a Laura Kinney-by-way-of Hot Topic alongside a far more reptilian Caliban, plus somehow even more world-wearied versions of Logan and Professor X.

"Punk runaway was the feeling that we were initially asked to portray," said artist Steffen Reichstadt. While they appear to have achieved that goal, one can't help but be reminded of a strong "Suicide Squad" Harley Quinn vibe coming from the angsty-looking older X-23. That being said, the creepier Calibans are pretty interesting, intense looks.
