The Conjuring 2 actress Frances O’Connor will star in Locke & Key, Hulu's adaptation of the acclaimed supernatural thriller by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez.

She'll play Nina Locke, who, following the murder of her husband, moves her three children to Keyhouse, the family home in Lovecraft, Massachusetts. There they encounter the manipulative entity Dodge, and numerous doors that can transport the mansion’s residents to other worlds or bestow them with supernatural abilities. Debuting in 2008 from IDW Publishing, the comic unfolded over six story arcs, plus a series of one-shots,  earning an Eisner Award and a pair of British Fantasy Awards along the way.

The pilot will be directed by Andy Muschietti (Mama, It) from a script by Hill. It's produced by IDW Entertainment and Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel), who also serves as showrunner.

Locke & Key was originally developed as a TV pilot in 2011, but Fox ultimately passed on the project. Although there were hopes the project might find a home at another network — or even new life as a movie — nothing ever materialized (although IDW did screen the unaired pilot in 2011 at Comic-Con International). In May 2016, IDW Entertainment announced plans to develop the project for TV once again, with Hill set to write the pilot and executive produce. Hulu ordered the pilot earlier this year.
