Even as A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas opens today in theaters, word has surfaced at The Hollywood Reporter that Lionsgate is looking to bring an animated version of the stoner comedy to television.

Franchise stars John Cho and Kal Penn will voice their characters in the series, which already has offers from multiple cable networks (Comedy Central and MTV among them, according to Deadline). Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, who wrote all three Harold & Kumar movies, reportedly are attached to pen the script.

The movie series debuted in 2004 with Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle, which spawned the 2008 sequel Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. Spinoff's Katie Calautti this morning gave A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas a positive review, saying, "If you loved the first two installments in the Harold & Kumar series, you’ll love this."
