More than ten years have passed since his on-screen death in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, and now, at long last, Qui-Gon Jinn is making a comeback. Actor Liam Neeson is reprising his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi’s ill-fated Jedi master in a three-part arc of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, with the first portion airing on Cartoon Network on January 28. Qui-Gon will appear to Obi-Wan in a series of visions to offer his former student with guidance over Anakin Skywalker, the Jedi-in-training he still views as “the Chosen One.”
“These characters resonate…even after all these years,” Neeson told Entertainment Weekly of his reasons for rejoining the Star Wars universe. “Growing up, my heroes were cowboys; they were strong and mysterious, and it seemed like they always rode off into the sunset. For kids today, Star Wars has that same kind of magic. I really wanted to be a part of that.”
