Throughout the history of mainstream comics and the history of the DC Comics superheroes, there have been a number of dynamic creative duos who have made their name redefining the icons of the past. This December, one such duo will reunite for the first time in over 20 years to deliver a new story featuring the team that made them famous: Paul Levitz and Keith Giffen on "Legion of Super-Heroes."

Announced this morning on DC's The Source blog, the pair who made their name on the Legion's legendary "Great Darkness Saga" before going on through a decade of reinvention with the characters of the Legion through the '80s and into the '90s will reteam for the incoming "Legion of Super-Heroes Annual" #1. The issue will mark their first Legion collaboration since 1989.

"[The issue] introduces an all-new, all-psycho Emerald Empress," teased editor Brian Cunningham on the blog. "Keith just sent me his first pages, and they look gorgeous. He's mixing Kirby with his '90s Legion style and a modern sensibility."

Cunningham noted that the annual will in fact mark the pair's third "Legion Annual" #1, though it probably goes without saying that many longstanding Legion fans will expect the book to be a can't miss event without the third time being a charm. Stay tuned to CBR for more on the issue and the future of the Legion as it becomes available.
