Mel Gibson’s well-documented fall from grace doesn’t mean we won’t see a continuation of some of his most popular film franchises — we just might not see him inhabiting those iconic roles anymore. Tom Hardy is already set to take over the Mad Max franchise with George Miller’s delayed fourth movie, and now it looks like someone is going to get the chance to do their best Martin Riggs impersonation.
Deadline’s report that Tales from the Gangster Squad writer Will Beall has been hired to tackle the Lethal Weapon screenplay for Warner. It’s hard to imagining any writer topping Shane Black’s original script, but Beal, a former Los Angeles police officer who’s generating a ton of heat in Hollywood, could give him a run for his money.
