As regular programming resumes here on Spinoff Online following the Thanksgiving holiday break, it's our unfortunate duty to kick off with some sad news: Leslie Nielsen, the silver-haired star of the Naked Gun franchise and several other film roles, has died at the age of 84.

According to various reports, Nielsen passed away in a hospital near his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he was being treated for pneumonia. Nielsen's representatives have confirmed the news.

Nielsen's career was a diverse one, to say the least, launching with dramatic leading man roles like Commander John J. Adams in Forbidden Planet before turning towards a series of comedic characters in his later years, most notably Lieutenant Frank Drebin in the Naked Gun movies. Whether he was sending shivers down your spine or bursting your gut with laughter, there's no debating that Nielsen was a master of his craft, even if his craft wasn't always your cup of tea.

Rest in peace, Mr. Nielsen. We promise, we won't call you Shirley while you're gone.
