EXCLUSIVE: LEGO Meets DC Super Hero Girls in Brain Drain Trailer

by  in CBR Exclusives, TV News Comment

You’re familiar with DC Comics-based LEGO animated features. You know there have been DC Super Hero Girls animated features. But a LEGO DC Super Hero Girls animated feature? Yep, it’s happening later this summer in the form of the direct-to-home release LEGO DC Super Hero Girls: Brain Drain, and CBR has release details and a first look at the trailer.

Brain Drain — with character designs based on the line of DC Super Hero Girls LEGO sets currently available — brings together multiple DC Comics characters including Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Bumblebee, Katana and many more, in a story involving mind control (and signature LEGO humor). Here’s the official synopsis:

When Supergirl, Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Bumblebee and Katana suddenly realize they cannot remember a single moment from their Monday at Super Hero High, the young DC Super Heroes spring into sleuthing action! Suspecting foul-play, they band together to retrace their steps and uncover the mystery of who exactly stole their memories – and what nefarious plan might be afoot?

The voice cast includes DC Super Hero Girls/DC animation regulars Grey Griffin (Wonder Woman), Tara Strong (Harley Quinn/Poison Ivy), Anais Fairweather (Supergirl), Teala Dunn (Bumblebee), Stephanie Sheh (Katana), Yvette Nicole Brown (Amanda Waller), Khary Payton (Cyborg) and Greg Cipes (Beast Boy) — all of whom voiced their roles in previous DC Super Hero Girls animated projects — plus franchise newcomer Ashlyn Selich, who takes on the Batgirl role. (Mae Whitman has voiced the character in previous DC Super Hero Girls releases).

“Animated feature-length movies featuring DC Super Hero Girls and LEGO are extremely popular amongst our fans, so we look forward to bringing this first collaboration to life,” Mary Ellen Thomas, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Vice President, Family & Animation Marketing, said in a statement.

This news follows word earlier this month that Lauren Faust, the creative mind behind My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, is working on a DC Super Hero Girls animated series for Cartoon Network, slated to debut in 2018. The DC Super Hero Girls branding launched in 2015 as a multimedia initiative starring teenage versions of DC’s female superheroes and targeted at young girl audiences, encompassing toys, comic books, chapter books, animated shorts and direct-to-home release animated features, including the recently released DC Super Hero Girls: Intergalactic Games.

LEGO DC Super Hero Girls: Brain Drain is scheduled for release on July 25 on Digital HD, and Aug. 8 on DVD. It’s directed by Todd Grimes, with a script by Jeremy Adams and Rick Morales as producer, and DC animation veterans Sam Register, Jill Wilfert and Robert Fewkes on board as executive producers.
