LEGO is officially a film franchise for Warner Bros., with three films on the way in the near-ish future — and now all three have set release dates. The Hollywood Reporter has word that the LEGO Batman movie — which doesn’t yet have an official title — has been scheduled for Feb. 10, 2017. The “Ninjago” film, based on the popular LEGO toy line, is slated to arrive a few months later, on Sept. 22, 2017. Rounding out the LEGO lineup, the sequel to 2014’s critical and commercial hit “The LEGO Movie” — plainly titled “The LEGO Movie Sequel” — is now scheduled for May 18, 2018, a week earlier than previously announced.
“These three films already in the pipeline are just the beginning of a creative and diverse animation slate that will be delighting audiences for years to come,” Dan Fellman, Warner Bros’ domestic distribution president, said in a statement.
Last year’s “The LEGO Movie” earned $468.8 million in worldwide gross, along with nearly universally positive reviews. The sequel will be directed by TV comedy veteran and “Scud: The Disposable Assassin” creator Rob Schrab.
