The latest actor to play the Joker may be someone very familiar with actual jokes. The Hollywood Reporter has word that Zach Galifianakis is in "final negotiations" to voice the Joker in the "LEGO Batman" feature film, joining a cast that already includes Will Arnett as Batman (reprising the role from 2014's "The LEGO Movie") and Michael Cera as Robin.

The Batman of "The LEGO Movie" was a clearly comedic take, and the casting of Galifianakis and Cera is further evidence that the movie as a whole is headed in that direction. Best known for the "Hangover" films and the Emmy-winning webseries "Between Two Ferns," Galifianakis is a newcomer to comic book-based material, though he did have a key supporting role in last fall's "Birdman," a meta-commentary on superhero films.

Directed by "LEGO Movie" animation supervisor Chris McKay and written by Seth Grahame-Smith, "The LEGO Batman Movie" is scheduled for release on Feb. 10, 2017.
