“DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” are about to learn “The Chicago Way.” In a new clip from the mid-season finale, the team goes toe-to-toe with Al Capone and his gangsters, but there’s more to the fight than meets the eye.
The clip opens with an execution. Al Capone has slapped a pair of concrete shoes on Eliot Ness, an FBI agent who was tasked with enforcing Prohibition in Chicago. Capone pushes Ness off a dock into the depths of Lake Michigan, condemning him to a death by drowning. However, Ness — who would go on to be credited with bringing Capone down — wasn’t supposed to die until 1957… and that’s where the Legends step in.
The Legends have fought Time Masters and aliens, so a bunch of gangsters is child’s play for the team; they take down Capone’s men easily. Nevertheless, Capone is able to beat a hasty retreat while the Legends take care of his men.
Meanwhile, Vixen taps into the power of her amulet and takes on a dolphin spirit in order to save Ness. They’re able to rescue him just in the nick of time, thereby preventing the aberration caused by his death.
The scene then zooms out and reveals that Damien Darhk has been watching from a nearby warehouse. “Merlyn was right,” he muses with a smile. “They took the bait.” Here, Darhk is obviously referring to Malcolm Merlyn, aka the Dark Archer. As seen in recent photos for the episode, he’ll be joining Darhk and Eobard “Reverse Flash” Thawne to form the Legion of Doom.
It’s unclear what the Legion’s end goal is. Reverse Flash has been flitting through several different time periods, altering the course of history in alarming ways; for instance, he used Darhk in an attempt to nuke New York City during WWII. He also tried to dismantle peace talks between the United States and Russia during the Cold War, also with Darhk’s help. Now, the two are working side-by-side, and it appears as though longtime “Arrow” villain Malcolm Merlyn will be at their side for whatever plan they’ve set in motion by almost killing Ness.
Airing Thursdays at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW, “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” stars Arthur Darvill as Rip Hunter, Brandon Routh as the Atom, Victor Garber and Franz Drameh as Firestorm, Caity Lotz as White Canary, Maisie Richardson-Seller as Vixen, Dominic Purcell as Heatwave and Nick Zano as Citizen Steel.
