SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for "Doomworld," the latest episode of "DC's Legends of Tomorrow."

The curtains have closed on one member of "DC's Legends of Tomorrow." In "Doomworld," the penultimate episode of Season 2, Vixen was killed in the line of duty.

Vixen died at the end of the episode, just after Heatwave regained possession of the Spear of Destiny and had to choose between the Legends and the Legion of Doom. Ultimately, Vixen coaxed him into handing it over to her by telling him that it didn't matter what the others thought; he was a hero to her. As such, he tossed her the Spear, only for Captain Cold to retaliate by blasting her with his cold gun.

As such, Vixen was turned to ice. The other watched on, horrified, as Cold walked over to her and smashed her into pieces. Even as Cold gloated, sure of his victory, Reverse Flash snatched the Spear right out of his hands. Against the wishes of the Legion as well as the Legends, he destroyed the Spear in front of them, thus dooming them to a life knowing about their reality before the Legion changed it.

Defeated and grieving, the Legends returned to Nate's house to make a plan. Sara rallied the team around their fallen comrade and suggested that they go back in time to prevent the Legion from ever getting the Spear. This would, of course, break the rules of time travel; in doing so, they would pull a "Back to the Future" and perhaps even run into themselves.

As the promo for "Aruba," the season finale, it looks as though they do just that. This being the case, there's a chance that they could save Amaya. After all, if they rewrite history so that the Legion never gets the Spear, then Vixen never dies at all. Of course, even if she remains dead, that likely wouldn't affect her timeline; after all, her village would still be burnt down, and Mari McCabe -- the present day Vixen -- would be sent into foster care, per the regular "Arrow"-verse timeline. Nevertheless, her death would be a major loss for the team, the Justice Society of America and for Nate in particular.

Airing Tuesdays at 9 pm ET/PT on The CW, “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” stars Brandon Routh as the Atom, Victor Garber and Franz Drameh as Firestorm, Caity Lotz as White Canary, Maisie Richardson-Seller as Vixen, Dominic Purcell as Heatwave and Nick Zano as Citizen Steel.
