Dark Horse Comics came out guns blazing ahead of Comic-Con International, announcing that Larry Hama has been tapped to write the upcoming "Call of Duty: Black Ops III" comic series debuting November 4, published in conjunction with Activision and Treyarch.

The longtime "G.I. Joe" writer and all-around war comics guru will team with artist Marcelo Ferreira ("Transformers," "TMNT") for the book, based on the massively popular first-person shooter games franchise whose next installment is scheduled for release November 6. Set in a dystopian, tech-future landscape, "Black Ops III" tells the story of a world-class band of cybernetically-enhanced soldiers and their covert missions.

"In the first issue, the elite squad infiltrates Tashkent, Uzbekistan, to take down a double agent... but as they close in, the operatives uncover something much more sinister at hand," Dark Horse said of the book's premise in their initial announcement.

Comic-Con attendees can snag an exclusive free minicomic at the Dark Horse Comics booth (#2615). For those unable to make it down to San Diego, the comic will also be available digitally via Activision's website.
