Nearly two months after postponing production in hopes of reining in its budget, Legendary Pictures has pulled the plug on Paradise Lost, director Alex Proyas' planned $120-million film inspired by the John Milton poem.

According to Deadline, the possibility remains that Paradise Lost could be revived, but only after technological advancements bring down the costs of the visual effects required to depict the celestial battles at the heart of the epic tale of good versus evil.

The film had been set to star Bradley Cooper as Lucifer, Benjamin Walker as Michael and Casey Affleck as Gabriel.
