Lee Pace is currently in talks to portray a mystery villain in James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy."

The cast of James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy" continues to grow, but not necessarily on the side of the heroes. Following the news of The Wrap reports that "The Hobbit" and "Pushing Daisies" actor Lee Pace is in final negotiations to portray a villain in the Marvel Studios Phase Two film. The identity of the antagonist is currently unknown.

In addition to "The Hobbit" and "Pushing Daisies," Pace's credits include "Lincoln" and "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2." The actor was under consideration for the starring role of Peter Quill/Star-Lord before it was ultimately announced the role had gone to "Parks and Recreation" star Chris Pratt. Reportedly, Marvel was impressed with Pace's Star-Lord audition and "kept him in mind when it came time to cast the villain."

If cast, Pace will join Lovibond, Pratt, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and Michael Rooker as Yondu. While not yet cast, Zoe Saldana is in talks to portray Gamora, leaving only the roles of Groot, the extraterrestrial tree monster; and Rocket Raccoon, the fearless genetically altered raccoon, to have actors attached.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" opens August 1, 2014.
