Veteran actor Laurence Fishburne will play the Daily Planet's gruff editor-in-chief Perry White in Man of Steel, Entertainment Weekly reports.

His addition leaves the roles of Jimmy Olsen and (possibly) Lana Lang as the last significant casting questions in director Zack Snyder's franchise reboot. Fishburne joins confirmed stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent and Diane Lane as Martha Kent, as well as an unconfirmed Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Julia Ormond as Lara and Antje Traue as Zod's henchwoman Faora. Christopher Meloni and Harry Lennix are set to play generals.

Debuting in the radio serial The Adventures of Superman in February 1940 before moving to the comics later that year, Perry White has been a fixture of the franchise ever since. He was portrayed most famously by Jackie Cooper in the 1978 Superman movie and its three sequels, and by Frank Langella in 2006's Superman Returns.

A Tony and Emmy winner whose career spans four decades, Fishburne is perhaps best known for this roles in the Matrix trilogy and the Tina Turner biopic What's Love Got to Do With It. He recently left the CBS police drama CSI: Crime Scene Investigation after just two seasons.

Man of Steel, which opens June 14, 2013, is written by David S. Goyer from a story by Goyer and Christopher Nolan. It's set to begin production this month.
