Jason Mitchell is poised to reunite with his "Straight Outta Compton" co-star Corey Hawkins in Legendary Pictures' "Kong: Skull Island."

Citing "insiders," The Hollywood Reporter contends Mitchell is in negotiations to play an easy-going pilot in the action-adventure, which centers on a team of explorers who venture onto the mysterious, primordial island that’s home to an assortment of creatures, including the king of the apes.

Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (“The Kings of Summer”), the film also stars Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson. Samuel L. Jackson and John C. Reilly are said to be circling roles in the film, which starts production in October in Hawaii.

The N.W.A. biographical drama "Straight Outta Compton" is the breakout project for Mitchell, who portrays the late rapper Eazy-E. The film has grossed $114 million since its Aug. 14 premiere.

“Kong: Skull Island” opens March 10, 2017.
