“The Walking Dead” creator Robert Kirkman tackles all kinds of subjects in the comic book’s letters column, and this week, he branched out into a question about the popular AMC television series based on the comic — specifically, one of the show’s most popular characters, Daryl Dixon as played by Norman Reedus. In “The Walking Dead” #130 letters column (via ComicBook.com), Kirkman was asked if Daryl Dixon could possibly be gay.
“All I can say is that it’s been discussed,” Kirkman wrote in the letters page. “We have very specific ideas about Daryl’s sexuality (or the seeming lack thereof), and if there’s ever a quiet period in the show where he’s not consistently distracted by crossbowing… we’ll tackle it in the show.”
When further asked if AMC would allow the possibility of Daryl Dixon being gay, Kirkman said, “For the record, they absolutely would.”
Kirkman and Reedus are currently paired up for Skybound Entertainment’s “Air,” a science-fiction thriller film set in an underground facility that houses cryogenically frozen people intended to re-establish society after a massive nuclear fallout. Reedus was also recently revealed as the star of the upcoming “Silent Hills” video game.
“The Walking Dead” returns for its fifth season Oct. 12 on AMC.
