Kirby Inking Challengers!

Awhile back, I asked folks if they would participate in a neat Jack Kirby inking challenge that I came across on the web. Here are the six folks who decided to play along (one gentleman was so kind as to show off FOUR DIFFERENT inking styles!!).

Enjoy!

To recap, a fellow on Flickr inked some of Jack Kirby’s original artwork – a panel that DC had other artists change so that Kirby’s Superman would look like the “house style” at the time.

Here is the original, by Jack Kirby…

I asked others to do the same, and here is what I got…

Joel Harris didn’t just ink it, he also COLORED it!

Here’s Eric Iverson‘s take on it…

Here is Scott Crockett‘s version…

Vig Saminathan gave us this take…

Carlo Cariño ALSO did an inked AND colored piece…

Finally, Todd Elswick went all out, wishing to show how different a different style and/or inking instrument can dramatically affect the look of a piece…

Here’s Todd inking with a bamboo brush…

Here’s Todd inking with a standard brush…

Here is Todd cross-hatching…

And finally, here is Todd using a marker…

Above and beyond, Todd! Above and beyond!!

Thanks to everyone who participated!!

How about you folks out there – which panel do you like the best?
