Ah, Twitter. The great equalizer. Where fanfolk can respond in horror directly to Kevin Smith's oversharingly sexual stories, and where Conan O'Brien can create an instant celebrity simply by following someone. Twitter levels the playing field, puts everyone on the Internet into a single, enormous room and lets them shout at each other all day. With hashtags.

You'll be happy to know that fans aren't the only ones coming at the big names on Twitter with outrageous things to say. Reality TV star Kim Kardashian tweeted at Twitter newcomer James Cameron on Friday with a warm welcome ... and a request. "Welcome to our twit-world @JimCameron! I'm ready for my leading role in 3D! LOL" The remark even elicited a response from Cameron, who produced this Friday's 3-D release, Sanctum. "Kim, you’re already in 3D! See you on #Sanctum 2."

Cameron, who is normally right on top of the latest in technology trends, also addressed his late arrival to the insanely popular social networking service. "I never tweeted before because I'm a long winded blowhard, and they don't allow enough characters." It's true that he talks a lot, but most of what comes out of his mouth is fascinating and usually concerns outer space, 3D technology or both. He's like a super-intelligent 12-year-old kid trapped in the body of the most successful filmmaker of all time. There are worse ways to be.

As for Kardashian ... maybe she's on to something. Pop stars in film is nothing new, but maybe a maverick blockbustersmith like Cameron could be the first to anchor one of his mega-budgeted productions to a reality TV star.

Wait, no. Let's not do that.
