Following Martin Scorsese's controversial comments about Marvel films, Jay and Silent Bob Reboot director Kevin Smith claimed that Scorsese's The Last Temptation of Christ is in fact a superhero film.

Before going further, Smith was sure to mention the he doesn't believe he knows more about filmmaking than Scorsese. "I would say this, and I'm not countering Mr. Scorsese: Martin Scorsese made perhaps the biggest superhero movie ever made," Smith told Yahoo! Entertainment. "The Last Temptation of Christ is a superhero movie. And I'm not diminishing Jesus by any stretch of the imagination. But who is Jesus if not a superhero."

"I respect his opinion, but I don't think he has the same emotional attachment that a lot of us have. It's the men and the women that we relate to in the movie, not the 'super' part," he added.

One of Scorsese's most controversial films, The Last Temptation of Christ was released in 1988 and starred Willem Dafoe as Jesus Christ. Scorsese's latest film, The Irishman, is set to release on Nov. 1.
