Kenneth Branagh appears to be confirmed as the director of Marvel's "Thor"

An item posted to the theatre news website WhatsOnStage appears to confirm that Kenneth Branagh will direct “Thor” for Marvel Studios, based on the iconic superhero created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Larry Lieber.

WOS reports that Branagh was set to direct Jude Law in a stage production of “Hamlet,” but “had to withdraw because of commitments to the forthcoming feature film ‘Thor,’ a project he’s recently undertaken.”

Branagh, who is one of the biggest names in English theatre and the creator of numerous film adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays including “Henry V,” “Hamlet” and “As You Like It,” was reported to be in talks with Marvel as recently as September.
