The actress, who’s married to director Len Wiseman and previously worked with him on the Underworld films, is believed to be up for the part of Lori, played by Sharon Stone in the 1990 movie.
Wiseman’s remake is expected to stick closer to Philip K. Dick’s 1966 short story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale” than Paul Verhoeven’s adaptation did. The new version centers on Douglas Quaid (Farrell), an ordinary factory worker in New Shanghai who begins to believe he’s a spy, but he’s not sure for which side — New Shanghai or the rival nation state Euromerica. Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston was cast last month as Vilos Cohaagen, the villainous leader of Euromerica.
Word emerged just last week that Jessica Biel had been offered the other female lead role, that of Melina (portrayed by Rachel Ticotin in the 1990 movie).
Beckinsale, who recently wrapped Contraband with Mark Wahlberg, is now shooting Underworld 4: New Dawn.
