Warner Bros. and DC have brought in a new writer to help get their Justice League Dark movie back on track, but it isn't Doctor Strange scribe Jon Spaihts, as previously reported. According to Deadline, up-and-coming Housebound writer Gerard Johnstone has been hired to polish the current script.

Johnstone was reportedly hired following his presentation to the studio when they were looking for potential directors. Following the studio's meeting with multiple directors, Warner Bros. decided to revisit the script after being left feeling "underwhelmed" by the presentations. While Johnstone may not have landed the directing gig, he will have a hand in the high-profile project.

The project, which is said to focus on John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon, will resume its search for a director. Both Guillermo del Toro and Doug Liman were attached to direct the project at various stages, with both later leaving due to scheduling conflicts. For a while, IT helmer Andy Muschietti seemed to be in the mix for the gig, but reports indicate that's no longer the case.

Justice League Dark does not yet have a release date.
