Warner Bros.' "Justice League Dark," starring characters from the supernatural corners of the DC Universe, has been in the works since at least 2012, when rumors first swirled about Guillermo del Toro's involvement. The "Pan's Labyrinth" and "Pacific Rim" director spoke enthusiastically about the project for nearly four years, before moving on to other films in 2016, leaving Doug Liman ("Edge of Tomorrow") to take the helm. Now Liman has offered some insight into his approach to "Justice League Dark," and what will separate it from all the other comic book adaptations.

"I think people will be surprised how character driven and how intimate 'Justice League Dark' is -- in kind of a field of bloated comic book movies," he told CinemaBlend. "We've found a way to do something that's actually really personal and small, and that's my goal. [My new movie] 'The Wall' is about character. The scenario allows me to dive into what I think is ... Justice League Dark -- originally John Constantine, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Zatanna, and Shade, the Changing Man -- first assembled in 2011 in the DC Comics title of the same name. The team dealt with supernatural and magical problems outside the jurisdiction and expertise of the traditional Justice League. The film, written by Michael Gili,  is expected to feature Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna and Etrigan the Demon.

No release date has been announced for "Justice League Dark."
