The first trailer for Jurassic World: Dominion has finally hatched, revealing to moviegoers their first look at the final entry in the classic franchise. It not only reunites the original trio of characters from the first Jurassic Park, but it also brings in a gaggle of new dinosaurs that have never been seen in the series before. For as beloved as the Jurassic series has been over the years, inspiring an equal admiration for dinosaurs, it's also been criticized for scientific inaccuracies among different species.

These may finally be reversed with the introduction of feathered dinosaurs. These prehistoric plumed reptiles are what scientists now believe the dino ancestors of birds truly looked like, and Jurassic World: Dominion is bringing that reality to the big screen. Here's which new species can be seen in the trailer sporting these threads, as well as the history of the extinct animals.

The Therizinosaurus Stalks Claire in Jurassic World: Dominion

Around the 1:29 mark, a large clawed dinosaur with red plumage can be seen in a swamp as it begins chasing after Jurassic World heroine Claire Dearing. This seems to be the Therizinosaurus, or "scythe lizard." An Asian dinosaur that lived 70 million years ago, the Therizinosaurus is most well known for its three elongated unguals. These bone claws look incredibly deadly and likely protect the animal from predators. But it's been debated over the years if it had any prey of its own.

While the claws would suggest that it was a carnivore, it's been speculated to have been an herbivore due to its small head and round body, with the claws being used to rake vegetation into its mouth. The potentially carnivorous angle seems to be in place with Jurassic World: Dominion, however, explaining why Claire is hiding in fear from it. The Therizinosaurs is believed to be a direct ancestor of modern birds, which explains its claws, general avian gait and feathers

The Pyroraptor Prepares to Fight Owen

Past the middle of the Jurassic World: Dominion trailer, a brief scene shows Chris Pratt's Owen Grady and DeWanda Wise's character, Kayla, being attacked by a feathery red raptor-like dinosaur. This, true to its appearance, is the pyroraptor, a late Cretaceous period dinosaur that lived in various parts of Europe. This somewhat lines up with the global aspects of the movie, with the cast taking on dinosaurs all over the world. Its name, "fire thief," is derived from its remains first being found after a forest fire in France. The area in which the pyroraptor shows up is a snowy terrain, however, which doesn't fit the more Mediterranean locale where Owen rides a motorcycle against the Atrociraptor.

The pyroraptor had not only feathers but also a long, bird-like tail and curved claws. These feathers help to finally give the longstanding franchise's raptors more scientific accuracy, as this has long been a source of controversy among scientists, and Jurassic Park's velociraptors are highly inaccurate in terms of looks. Unfortunately, the pyroraptor continues that trend in another way. Like actual velociraptors, pyroraptors were not that large and generally matched the size of a large fowl. This means that the creature really shouldn't be any more of a threat to Owen than the average chicken, but for the sake of excitement, it's another deadly dinosaur ready to take dominion over the new world.
