New promotional art for 2018's Jurassic World 2 teases that we could see the return of the fearsome Indominus Rex.

The teaser poster, which first appeared in License! Global magazine, doesn't offer much beyond a menacing close-up of the deadly dinosaur, with its cold, reptilian eye serving as the focal point.

While this certainly evokes memories of the ferocious Indominus Rex from 2015's Jurassic World, the way the image is cropped makes it difficult to determine whether this is truly the same prehistoric predator, or perhaps a terrifying new hybrid instead. After all, when we last saw the Indominus Rex, it was on the losing side of an epic battle with a velociraptor, a mosasaurus, and the T. rex from the original Jurassic Park.

In any case, this eerie new image certainly seems to fall in line with Jurassic World star Chris Pratt's comments on the sequel's “scarier” and “darker” tone.

Directed by J.A. Bayona from a script by Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly, Jurassic World 2 features returning stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Howard, along with franchise newcomers Ted Levine, Justice Smith and Geraldine Chaplin. The Universal Pictures sequel arrives June 22, 2018.
