Diablo Cody, best known for her Oscar award-winning “Juno” screenplay, has been signed by Sony to pen a new draft of the the “Barbie” movie, Deadline reports.
The film, announced last April, is based on the popular Mattel property and follows the titular character’s long and diverse career. Sony hopes to launch a franchise with the character.
“Diablo’s unconventionality is just what Barbie needs,” said producer Walter Parkes in a statement. “It signals we’re going for a legitimately contemporary tone. We’re bringing her on because she had great ideas, but even more importantly, she truly loves Barbie.”
In addition to “Juno,” Cody’s past credits include “Jennifer’s Body,” “Young Adult” and “Paradise.”
