Jujutsu Kaisen is well-known for many reasons. It provides captivating characters and stunning animation, but it also perfectly balances horror, action, and humor. It's a cutting-edge anime that's aware of its situation in the current moment, and as a result, it has gained wide popularity and many fans.

Not everyone is convinced, though, and even die-hard fans take some issues with the series sometimes. Whether it be the untimely loss of characters with huge followings or the tight-rope walk between cliché and revolutionary, there are many points fans have found disappointing.

WARNING: Spoilers Ahead!

9 Nobara Didn't Get Enough Screen Time

Jujutsu Kaisen's Nobara using Resonance with a cursed floral pattern on her face

Nobara Kugisaki was the one character out of Satoru Gojo's students that didn't get to show off what she could do in the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen. She wasn't given a lot of screen time, and when she got it, she was often being backed into corners, like when she was separated from Megumi Fushiguro and Yuji Itadori during the Cursed Womb Arc.

She also failed to win her one-on-one battle during the Kyoto Goodwill Event thanks to Momo Nishimiya's team coming in to save her at the last second. At the very end of the season, Nobara begins to shine, but she needs more time to develop. She has a great and complex cursed technique, so she has a lot of potential.

8 Fan-Favorite Characters End Up Dying

Kento Nanami in battle with Mahito in Jujutsu Kaisen.

There are a lot of fan-favorite characters who lose their lives in Jujutsu Kaisen. Although only the controversial character Junpei Yoshino has been lost in the anime, in the manga, the death toll is much higher. One of the most egregious offenses the series has committed against fans was killing the highly popular Kento Nanami.

During Season 1, Nanami stole fans' hearts with his unique, no-nonsense personality, so watching his demise was particularly painful if the demise of other characters such as Junpei and Masamichi Yaga were not.

7 Other Fan-Favorites Became Trapped

While other fan-favorite characters are still alive, they were certainly done dirty by the series creators. One such wildly popular character, Gojo, was trapped within a cursed artifact and has been effectively neutralized.

Whether he will get out of his imprisonment is up to speculation, and even more unsure is what state he will be in if he does return. Fans are simultaneously dreading what will happen when he comes back and itching to see him released and back in the plot.

6 There's A Lot Of Body Horror

Mahito Transfigures A Victim

Jujutsu Kaisen is a bit darker than the average shonen anime, but that is what makes it so exciting and makes the stakes feel so high. However, to achieve its dark, horror tone, it has looked to body horror to shock and appall both audiences and characters alike.

For example, Mahito's entire cursed technique comes in the form of body horror, as he can manipulate and warp a person's body and soul. It has led to some jarring scenes. However, sometimes the show seems to rely on this to spook watchers when more time could have been put into making villains like Jogo scarier.

5 Fans Were Given Incorrect Expectations In The Intro

Jujutsu Kaisen's main cast hanging out with an imaginary version of Junpei if he hadn't died.

In the intro sequence to the first season, fans see Junpei Yoshino, a tragic character, having fun and being friends with Nobara, Megumi, and Yuji. However, fans who haven't gotten that far in the manga quickly find out that this was false advertising, as Junpei suffers a terrible death at the hands of Mahito.

Some fans felt a little betrayed by this, as they thought that Junpei would choose Yuji and join the sorcerers up until the very end when Mahito warped his body and he perished.

4 Fans Saw Way Too Many Ultra-Powerful Characters At Once

Gojo Versus Sukuna (Jujutsu Kaisen).

Jujutsu Kaisen has a lot of "most powerful" characters. Gojo is the "most powerful" sorcerer, and Ryomen Sukuna is the "most powerful" cursed spirit. However, Sukuna is trapped within Yuji, making Yuji capable of being the "most powerful" cursed spirit and sorcerer. Meanwhile, Megumi Fushiguro has a legendary technique that impressed even Sukuna, meaning that Megumi could also be the strongest, as alluded to when he summoned the Mahoraga.

This has left some fans reeling as they don't know how powers are measuring up to each other. As far as the anime goes, there's still a lot of explaining left to do and context left to give.

3 There Are Too Many Long-Standing Shonen Tropes

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 finale

Just because Jujutsu Kaisen is a little different from a lot of shonen series out there doesn't mean it doesn't draw upon a lot of the same tropes. For one, the idea of a "chosen one" is a long-standing one, and so is being the vessel for a powerful evil entity.

Furthermore, the very nature of the trio-in-training with a powerful sensei or overseer has been used over and over again. It doesn't help that both Yuji and Megumi could be argued to be "chosen ones" in their respective fields.

2 The Characters Are Sometimes Cliché

Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara in Jujutsu Kaisen.

Many of the characters also follow a lot of recognizable shonen tropes. Yuji is the kind protagonist who has a lot of latent power but didn't know it until later. He is a champion of friendship, willpower, and care for the innocent.

Meanwhile, Megumi is the brooding, moody type, and Nobara is a crass, hot-headed woman. On top of that, Gojo is an ultra-powerful sensei figure. A lot of these character tropes can be found throughout shonen anime.

1 Everyone Is Out To Get Everyone

Gakuganji and Gojo arguing in Jujutsu Kaisen.

There are a lot of complicated politics going on in the Jujutsu Sorcerer community, especially between the two schools in Kyoto and Tokyo. Kyoto's headmaster, Yoshinobu Gakuganji, even called for the execution of both Yuji Itadori and Tokyo headmaster, Masamichi Yaga. Fans know that Gojo also has a plan that he is enacting behind the scenes.

All the politics makes it hard for the main characters to grow and has either directly or indirectly led to the loss of many characters, whether it be because they died, were imprisoned, or had their means to fight stripped from them. Many fans are left frustrated by these decisions.
