Judi Dench has confirmed she’ll return as M, the enigmatic head of MI6, in the 23rd James Bond film. It will mark her seventh time in the role.
When pressed for details about the script at Tuesday’s South Bank Sky Arts Awards, Dench told BBC News, “My lips are sealed. I can’t tell you anything at all!”
She joins returning star Daniel Craig and American Beauty director Sam Mendes, who were confirmed earlier this month following delays tied to MGM’s widely publicized financial problems. The still-untitled movie, penned by Bond veterans Neal Purvis and Robert Wade and The Gladiator writer John Logan, is set for release on Nov. 9, 2012. That will mark the 50th anniversary of the first Bond film Dr. No.
“Of course, I’m looking forward hugely to working with Daniel [Craig] again and with Sam [Mendes] who I’ve only ever worked with in the theater,” Dench told BBC News. “So that’ll be all good fun to do! I’m so glad it’s coming back, it’s wonderful.”
Dench debuted as M in 1995’s GoldenEye, opposite then-new 007 Pierce Brosnan.
