In his first role since playing Peter Bishop on the fan-favorite sci-fi seriesFringe, Joshua Jackson has been cast in Showtime's new drama The Affair.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor will play Cole, a "hard-edged cowboy" and manager of his family's Long Island ranch. Jackson appears opposite Ruth Wilson's character Allison, Cole's wife and worker in a pancake house.

The Affair centers around two married couples -- Cole and Allison, as well as Noah (Dominic West) and Helen (Maura Tierney) -- and the affair between Allison and Noah that affects all four people. The show will be told separately from both the male and female perspective.

Created by In Treatment's Sarah Treem and Hagai Levi with a pilot episode directed by Mark Mylod, The Affair is currently in production at Showtime.
