WWE Studios has tapped Josh Gad and partner Ryan Dixon to write the screenplay for its planned biopic about famed wrestler George Raymond Wagner, better known to fans as Gorgeous George.

"Gorgeous George was a true pioneer in television," Michael Luisi, President of WWE Studios, said in a statement. "Josh is a true talent and we are thrilled to see him and Ryan tackle such a groundbreaking story."

The film, titled "Gorgeous George," will tell the story of the famed wrestler whose flamboyant personality and ring attire made him one of the biggest stars of his era. Though mainly known by wrestling fans, George's influence extended far beyond the squared circle, affecting the personas of other celebrities; James Brown, Muhammed Ali and Bob Dylan all publicly expressed their appreciation for the ways in which George impacted their careers.

George's life was previously used as the basis for 1978's "The One And Only," starring Henry Winkler.

Great Point Media is working alongside WWE Studios in developing the film.
