Jonathan Frakes is famous for a few things. There's his glorious beard, and the way he has to step over chairs in order to sit in them, but mostly he's remembered for playing Commander Riker on Star Trek: The Next Generation. And then there's Jonathan Frakes, the director, who has helmed a multitude of shows from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to Burn Notice, and Roswell to Leverage. Now he's taken on the job of directing an episode of the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, writer-producer Gretchen J. Berg revealed “Jonathan Frakes will rejoin the Trek world with Discovery. He’s a fantastic guy and great director.” Showrunner Aaron Harberts added, “Our cast is dying to work with him.”

Premiering Sunday, Sept. 24, at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and its digital-streaming platform CBS All Access, Star Trek: Discovery stars Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham, Jason Isaacs as Captain Lorca, Michelle Yeoh as Captain Georgiou, Doug Jones as Science Officer Lt.
