Plenty of photos and video from Joaquin Phoenix's upcoming The Joker film have surfaced online, but the movie may be very different from what these leaks indicate.

According to Revenge of the Fans, certain scenes and sequences that have found their way online will come across very differently in the final film. The film will also contain strong political, V For Vendetta-like undertones, including some commentary on Donald Trump's presidency.

Additionally, the film will reportedly have a different tone in comparison to other comic book movies. Instead of the scary-funny Joker we're used to seeing, The Joker's title character will be far more tragic. The film is described as "heartbreaking" and "pitiful."

This is why the style of The Joker has been compared to that of 70's and 80's-era Martin Scorsese and Sidney Lumet films: it's the Joker as Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver. The film will also possibly rely more on its roots in comics than currently anticipated.

Directed and co-written by Todd Phillips, Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix as the titular character along with Robert De Niro, Marc Maron, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen and Bill Camp. It is scheduled to be released on October 4, 2019.
