Lionsgate invites viewers to come get some next weekend in the past-paced Super Bowl spot for "John Wick: Chapter 2."

The Valentine's Day-themed ad suggests that, this weekend, audiences "slip into something a shade darker" -- a reference to its box-office competition, the "Fifty Shades of Grey" sequel "Fifty Shades Darker." However, the sultry music and imagery quickly gives way to quick cuts, with loaded guns, breaking glass, fast cars and hard kicks and punches.

The sequel to the 2014 action thriller finds Keanu Reeves' legendary hitman forced out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of an international assassins' guild. Bound by a blood oath to help, John travels to Rome to square off against some of the world's deadliest killers.

"John Wick" was a surprise hit, earning $86 million from an estimated production budget of $20 million, and garnering critical acclaim for its performances and action sequences.

Helmed Chad Stahelski, who co-directed the first film, from a script once again by Derek Kolstad, "John Wick: Chapter 2" also features returning cast members John Leguizamo as Aurelio, Bridget Moynahan as Helen Wick and Ian McShane as Winston. They're joined by franchise newcomers Common, Riccardo Scamarcio, Laurence Fishburne, Ruby Rose, Lance Reddick and Franco Nero.

"John Wick: Chapter 2" opens Friday nationwide.
