After weeks of rumors, the Suicide Squad seems to have finally landed its Rick Flag.
According to a new interview on a French movie website, actor Joel Kinnaman will take a part in director David Ayer and Warner Bros.’ DC Comics adaptation “Suicide Squad.” The actor confirmed his involvement with the site Allocine (via ComicBook.com) though the details of the deal and studio confirmation that he will play the role of Rick Flag remain unconfirmed.
A translation of Allocine’s own report says, “The actor Joel Kinnaman confirmed to us his presence in the cast list for Suicide Squad, a film adapted from DC Comics, in which he will play the role of Rick Flag,” however in the interview itself, the actor does not appear to name his character. Additionally, the site seems to say that the version of the character included in the film with be Rick Flag, Junior as the original was a member of the first Suicide Squad in World War II.
CBR News has reached out to Warner Bros. for confirmation that Kinnaman has officially signed on for the role with the studio but so far as received no response.
If the deal is in place, the Swedish actor who previously appeared in the “Robocop” reboot will take over the role from Tom Hardy who dropped a part in Ayer’s film which also stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as the Joker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress.
Pre-production on “Suicide Squad” is already underway, and the film is expected for release on Aug. 5, 2016.
