Joe Kelly and Ken Niimura's comic book "I Kill Giants" was first announced to be in development for a film adaptation back in 2015. Today, author, co-creator and the film's screenwriter Joe Kelly revealed that principal shooting has begun on the project, financed by Umedia.

Kelly and Niimura’s award-winning comic "I Kill Giants," published by Image Comics' Man of Action imprint (of which Kelly is a founding partner), follows the story of "outsider" Barbara Thorson who finds fantasy worlds -- such as "Dungeons and Dragons" -- much easier to deal with than the reality in which she lives. This escapism soon converges with her own reality as she begins to prepare for the threat of an invasion of giants she sees the signs for everywhere.

Since the rights were bought for the film, Madison Wolfe (“The Campaign”) has been given the main role and Zoe Saldana (“Guardians of the Galaxy”) has signed on to play her school psychologist. Chris Columbus (“Tallulah”) will produce the project, alongside Treehouse Pictures, and Anders Walter (“Helium”) is set to direct.

“I Kill Giants” won “Best Indy Book of 2008” by IGN as well as the Gold Award at the 5th International Manga Award in 2012. It made it into the “Top Ten Great Graphic Novels For Teens” in 2010 by the Young Adult Library Services Association.
