IDW Publishing has announced via a press release that they will be joining forces with Lion Forge Comics for "Miami Vice Remix," a new comic series based on the iconic '80s cop show.

Crockett and Tubbs will get a modern day update courtesy of writer Joe Casey and artist Jim Mahfood. The release teases that the partners will go undercover and face criminals unlike any they ever encountered during the '80s drama's five seasons -- namely voodoo and zombies.

"Working with Jim is always a trip and taking on '80s TV icons like Crockett and Tubbs was too good to pass up," said Casey in the release. "Whether you're familiar with 'Miami Vice' or not, this book will burn a hole in your brain."

Thanks to it's stylish pastel wardrobe and New Wave-inspired soundtrack, the original "Miami Vice" series has become synonymous with the 1980s. The show ran from 1984 to 1989 and inspired a 2006 feature film starring Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell. For the comic series, the property will move out of the '80s and into modern-day Miami. Even with a contemporary setting, the cover art by Jim Mahfood reveals that "Vice" won't lose it's sense of style.

"Miami Vice Remix" is the latest in a line of digital-first comics published by Lion Forge to get a physical release through IDW; other such titles include "Saved By The Bell" and "Rampage Jackson: Street Soldier."

"Miami Vice Remix" #1 will hit stores in February 2015.
