The "Bad Boys" franchise might be gearing up for a third installment and Deadline is reporting that Joe Carnahan might possibly direct.

"Safe House" writer David Guggenheim wrote a draft of the script for the film, and Deadline says that Sony Pictures wants to move quickly on "Bad Boys 3" in order to get Will Smith -- who starred in the previous two films alongside Martin Lawrence -- to consider the movie for his next role after "Suicide Squad."

Michael Bay directed the previous two installments in the franchise, which follows best friends and Miami Police Department narcotics division detectives Marcus Burnett (Lawrence) and Mike Lowrey (Smith). The last film in the franchise came out in 2003.

Spinoff Online has reached out to Sony Pictures for comment.
