The publisher revealed today in USA Today that acclaimed artist Jock will be heading to the House of Ideas to both write and draw a story in “Savage Wolverine” starting with September’s issue #9.
“He’s just totally over the top,” the creator told the paper. “You can draw him as gnarly and violent and extreme as you want, but it’s never enough! I love characters that can handle extremes, and he’s definitely an extreme.”
The story hook for the feature involves throwing the man called Logan far into the future for a sci-fi tale where his healing factor has let him live for centuries. “Logan has the power of regeneration as we know, but he’d only ever be able to regenerate his own cells,” the artist explained. “So what if thousands, maybe even millions of years in the future, the world around him has continued to evolve, and he’s left literally, a Neanderthal man? He always chose to be the outsider, but now he has no choice. He doesn’t fit in.”
This marks the third arc for the “Savage” series after Frank Cho’s opening tale and Zeb Wells/Joe Madureira’s incoming two-parter with Elektra. “It’s a perfect set up – being able to tell an out of continuity tale and have carte blanche to play around with things with no fear of repercussions,” Jock added of the freedom the title allows.
