J. Michael Straczynski doesn't make public promises he doesn't intend to keep. He makes this point clear in a post on his Facebook fan page, as he uses the breakthroughs of his previous television series Babylon 5 to build up expectations for his upcoming project, Sense8.

The writer promises that the Netflix series, expected to debut next year, will "change the way you see television, in terms of production values, storytelling, scope, scale, and action." He then runs down the ways Sense8 will push the boundaries of science fiction.

We are going to tell a story on a planetary scale. No cheats. In ways no one else has ever done before.

We are going to treat subjects that most TV series, and pretty much all SF series have avoided.

We are going to present visuals and action in ways that you have simply never, ever seen before. Anywhere.

In 2015 we are going to blow the doors off the television business.

JMS backs up these claims by citing all the ways Babylon 5 broke rules when it debuted in 1993. The series had a five-season arc, used CGI extensively, shot in 16x9 and produced an "aggressive" 5.1 audio mix.

Straczynski teamed up with filmmakers Andy and Lana Wachowski to create Sense8, which will star Naveen Andrews, Daryl Hannah, Brian J. Smith, Tuppence Middleton, Aml Ameen, Doona Bae, Miguel Silvestre, Tena Desae, Max Riemelt and Jamie Clayton. JMS previously talked to Deadline about the show's premise.

"The series follows eight characters around the world who, in the aftermath of a tragic death, find themselves linked to each other mentally and emotionally," he said. "They can not only see and talk to each other as though they were in the same place, they have access to each other’s deepest secrets. Not only must they figure out what happened and why and what it means for the future of humanity, they must do so while being hunted by an organization out to capture, kill or vivisect them."
